@maique 🤦♂️ Thanks, it’s fixed now. And thanks for checking out Search Space!

@JohnPhilpin @pratik @maique @skoobz @odd @manton @ArnoldHoogerwerf @pimoore @frostedechoes @cdevroe Pinging you here in case you won’t see the post on your timeline. The Seach Space BETA is here. 👆
@cdevroe Yay!
@g Tack! Inser att jag kommer behöva trimma sökmotorn för att hantera korta användarnamn som ditt. 😅 Du gav mig något att fundera på.
@JohnPhilpin I’m leaning towards @manton’s power is needed for this kind of problem.
Skimming the sitemap.xml, I count 4,911 posts and pages but only 16 replies. @pimoore‘s theme should only affect the presentation of replies. I don’t think it’s to blame for the missing ones.
You could always try turning it off and on again. 🤭 That is to say, forcing a complete rebuild of the blog. Sometimes, that will chase away weird issues like this.
@bjhess Looks like they are playing the greatest and best song in the world. 😊
@manton That link will only take you to the conversation for “replies to replies”. Replies to posts will take you to the original post on the blog instead. Like this example.
@JohnPhilpin Hmm. 🤔 Surfing on your site, I noticed replies end abruptly on page 4. I would expect more replies. Lots more. Do you know what’s up with that?
@ArnoldHoogerwerf The more, the merrier! Regarding that side note, you will be able to get to the original conversation from the search result page. 😉
@JohnPhilpin @pratik @maique @skoobz @odd Thanks for showing interest in Search Space! The beta will arrive later this week. If you want to prepare, ensure your replies are included on your Micro.blog and ready to be indexed. Navigate to Account and check that Include my replies on is set to your blog (not Timeline only).
I will let you know when the plug-in is ready to be installed.
@maique That sounds awesome but be careful; you might end up with a microbrewery. 😅 A friend of mine started brewing at home but ended up brewing (a lot) more, renting a place, and building a company around it.
@odd I can’t remember a yes/no version, but we had posters about (healthy) food. And I agree, this is yes-food!
@annahavron I’ve already tasted some of the goods and can confirm that it was delicious. And yes! Late summer and autumn offer so much delicious food.
@rishabh @pcora It sort of works, but the VPN tunnel is leaky. Depending on your use case, this might be a huge issue or no problem at all.
If you’re using VPN to hide traffic from your internet service provider, this is bad. Really bad. If you, like me, use VPN to access services that are not available in your country, but don’t care about some of your data leaking to your ISP, you’re probably fine.
@khurtwilliams Yay! 🎉 Glad to help.
@khurtwilliams I’ve done this before but verified again just now. Initiated sign-in on my iPhone using Safari on a 4G connection. Opened my email client on the same device and long-tapped the Sign in to Micro.blog link to get a preview of the URL. Then I manually typed that URL into Firefox on my Mac (hooked up to another network). Worked like a charm. 😊
@khurtwilliams Ah, I see, I’ve been in similar situations myself with a handful of clients. Can’t see how they can prevent you from using one of my workarounds, though. Is your smartphone allowed on premise? Just initiate sign-in there and manually type the sign-in URL into your work computer. No personal devices allowed at the office? Start the sign-in process before you enter the building and write the URL down on a piece of paper or your arm, then type it in when you’re at your desk.
@rknightuk Oh, man. 😂
@odd Good evening, and thanks. It went relatively smoothly, but some polling stations had long lines – even after closing. I’m glad I voted beforehand and avoided all that.
Interesting idea to do theme development on an iPad. Let me know how it goes and if you need a beta tester.
@manton It’s a lovely book, and that reading spot looks fantastic.
@otaviocc Yay! May ain’t too far away. 🥳
@AndyNicolaides In the digital realm, few things are impossible. 😊 But sometimes copyright can make it a challenge. You can’t take someone else’s work without their permission.
You’re in luck with the Alto theme, though, as it is released under the permissive MIT license. So, nothing is stopping you or someone else from porting that theme to Micro.blog (Hugo).
@SgtApple There’s definitely something to keeping your posts as portable as possible. But, I wouldn’t worry too much about using shortcodes. Tufte is open source and released under a permissive license, so you could just copy the relevant shortcodes to a custom theme (or plug-in) and keep using them if you decide to change the theme.
@matti One possible optimization is to lazy load off-screen images. If you add loading="lazy" to img elements, browsers won’t load images until the visitor scrolls near them. That will probably cut the initial load of your homepage down to half a megabyte or so.
@khurtwilliams There are ways you could work around that. Temporarily connect your device to another network while signing in (like your smartphone’s hotspot). Use a VPN. Manually copy the sign-in link from another device (with access to your email). Forward the sign-in mail to an internal inbox that you can access from the locked down network.
But, of course, the best solution is to leave that network and never ever return to it. It sounds like a horrible situation.
@jefbrr Hello and welcome! 👋
@vincent Here’s one reply and two bears.
@BestofTimes Yeah, it’s a good one. Jon and the rest of the team definitely know how to make gin.
@Mandalorian Are you in the Apple ecosystem? If so, just enable text message forwarding and Safari will autofill SMS one time passwords – on all your devices.
@nielsk Hmm, sorry, you probably have to tap Invite with Link first (and cancel that invitation) to have the Copy Link alternative to show up on the share sheet.
@nielsk I’m on iOS 16, and it does exist for me. Maybe the note you’re on is saved locally on your device and not on iCloud?
@nielsk Are you using iCloud for your notes? If so, just tap the share icon followed by Copy Link. Now you have the URL of that note in your clipboard, ready to be pasted wherever you want.
@rom Not something I’m doing, but you could use a plugin like Feedzy to import your Micro.blog RSS feed items as posts on WordPress. Another alternative is automation platforms like Zapier.
@jtalon It turned out great!
@nitinkhanna Yeah, it definitely comes across that way based on the copy on the site. But Kill the Newsletter is really just an email to Atom feed service. Sure, you can set up one email address per newsletter. But you don’t have to.
You can also have one inbox for all your newsletters. And it’s not just for newsletters either, any mail forwarded to the address will appear in the Atom feed.
Instapaper sounds like a great alternative as-well.
@ndreas Härligt, jag är grymt imponerad!
@nitinkhanna You could just forward the newsletters to Kill the Newsletter. Either manually or by setting up automatic forwarding.
@jackwellborn Huh. I recently bought Skyward Sword HD to replay this adventure but stopped halfway through. Not sure why then, but now I know. It lacks purpose. Right on!
@lukebouch Whatever name you choose, I will tune in and listen. 😊
@jayeless Libraries are the best. 🥰
@maique Wow, it turned out great. Love it! 🤩
@maique @cliffordbeshers I’m still alive! 😅 Maybe it’s not into feasting on humans?
@pimoore Remember when we talked about my bookshelf? The desk happens to be designed by the same company, House Doctor. 😊
@vincent: Oh, have you kept it alive for all these years? 😊 If you’re curious about the technical side of Tamagotchi, Natalie Silvanovich’s work is worth checking out. It’s a rabbit hole, though. I especially enjoyed reading Reliable Code Execution on a Tamagotchi (PDF).
@odd I can see why. 😋
@cygnoir I’m intrigued; thanks for the tip!
@hollyhoneychurch Happy birthday! 🥳
